9 January 2022 | Update from Department of Resources

Please see below the latest information from the Department of Resources.

This bulletin provides resources companies and peak bodies in the resources sector with the latest information on COVID-19 and how it relates to the sector.

Dear critical industry colleagues,

Thank you for your work keeping Queensland safe during the current Covid-19 outbreak.

Today the Queensland Government announced that some critical workers can now provide essential services even while classified as close contacts, provided they meet strict health criteria. Details of current requirements can be found on the Queensland Health website.

This change is designed to ensure the continued supply of essential goods and services to the community. The measures are only in place for close contacts who are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic.

Employers should determine if their organisation or business falls under the narrow list of critical industries, then identify which roles within their organisation are critical and cannot be performed from home, before notifying the Queensland Government. This is a self-assessment process. You must meet the requirements as specified by Queensland Health. But you are not required to seek approval before asking staff who would otherwise be a close contact to return to work, provided the requirements are met.

Self-assessment lodgement

Details for ongoing reporting arrangements are being finalised and will be provided in coming days. Industry should ensure it records relevant details for lodgement purposes, including:

  • Details of the relevant business – name and address and phone number
  • Business type/industry sector
  • Identification of the critical roles and rationale for their requirement
  • Number of roles identified

Our aim is to make this as easy and clear as possible. But it’s important we continue our focus on relevant health protections. Close contacts attending your business are more likely than others to spread Covid-19 inside your business. It is important you restrict people attending to the most critical of roles.

We will work with you over coming days to provide further assistance. If you have any immediate queries, please contact covid@resources.qld.gov.au.

Thank you.
